To prevent flooding during severe rainfall, the capacity of Batley Beck had to be increased. As there was limited scope for additional landtake it was decided to steepen the side slopes using Porcupine retaining wall blocks. Not only do the walls act as retaining structures, but also prevent bank erosion and scour during peak flows.
